His career took off with his now multi-platinum single “The Way It Is,” performed with his first band Bruce Hornsby & the Range.  From 1988-1995 Bruce lent his piano skills as a part time member of The Grateful Dead.  His time with the Dead proved to be a successful collaboration, bring his own style of jazz-fueled improvisations to help revitalize and refocus Jerry Garcia and the rest of the Dead crew.

In 1993, Bruce released his first solo album, Harbor Lights.  With this album he sound was strictly jazz focused.  Each album seemed to be an experimentation with a different genre. Hot House, his second solo effort, showered fans with a more blues-focused sound.  His continual experimentation with a variety of musical styles led to formation of his second band, Bruce Hornsby and the Noise Makers in 2000.

Hornsby and the Noisemakers have released several albums, with their most recent release, Levitate in 2009.  Fans unfortunately will not get to see them back on the road.  In a statement made on his official website Bruce responds, “I’m burned out on the road and am taking a break long enough to allow me to be able to enjoy it again.”
